VW-ID.Buzz-Exterior.pngThe Volkswagen ID. Buzz is an all-electric microbus that’s getting a lot of much-deserved attention. The model is slated to make its debut in 2023 as a 2024 model year vehicle. Here is what we know so far about this family vehicle and why the automotive community can’t stop talking about it.

Performance

This vehicle will be built on the Modular Electric Drive (MEB), the same platform that is currently in use for the Volkswagen ID.4. It will be powered by a rear electric motor that produces 201 horsepower and 229 lb-ft of torque. Eventually, an optional dual-motor system delivering 295 horsepower will become available.

As far as battery and range, no information has been confirmed other than the battery will have more than 77-kWh of power. With this detail, we suspect a range of more than 260 miles on a full charge.

Design

The Volkswagen ID. Buzz is a revival of the brand’s microbus that was popular in the 1960s and 1970s. The upcoming model retains the retro design while incorporating modern elements.

One prominent design cue is a front light bar that integrates with LED headlights. This bar sits low and at an angle, forming what some people describe as a smile.

Interior

The microbus has three rows of seats, seating up to seven people. There’s also a configurable load floor in the cargo section that provides 40 cubic feet of storage room. Available add-ons include front massage seats and ambient cabin lighting.
